The holiday season is upon us once again.  Christmas celebrations seem to start earlier each year and as quickly as the season approaches, it is gone. Take the opportunity to capture special gatherings with family and friends and preserve these wonderful memories for future enjoyment.

During these hectic holiday times where we must balance our work, family, shopping, and everyday duties into an already full day it is sometimes difficult to stop and reflect on our many blessings and good fortune.  Thanks to your wonderful support and loyalty over the years we have a great deal to be thankful for at The Scrapping Bug.  Your continued support is simply wonderful but even more valuable is the rewarding friendships we have developed over the last five years. These special relationships give us all great joy and pleasure and we thank you for these blessings.

One of the key reasons for our success at The Scrapping Bug is our knowledgeable and friendly Bug Team. It is a pleasure to have Cherie Nymeyer join our family at The Scrapping Bug. Cherie is a great scrapbooker with plenty of new ideas and a great style. I am sure you will find Cherie’s bubbly enthusiasm a positive addition to our Bug Team.  As well as assisting you with your shopping wishes and designer pages, Cherie will make our online Gallery an exciting and fun place to visit.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all our friends who attended and helped make our Second Annual Big Bug Crop on December 3, 2005 another big success. From our draw and crop proceeds, we will once again make a generous donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. Thank you to everyone involved.

To you and your family and friends, from The Bug Team, Holly, Melanie, Sheri, Cherie, Sandy and Kim have a wonderful festive season, good health and happiness in the New Year.

Making a List and Checking it Twice    by John Simpson

Sound familiar?  Well, aside from the usual ones, there may be a couple of other lists to think about this time of year.  Sure, we all have a special scrapbooking item or two we would like Santa to know about. Maybe it is one of those cool Fastenater Staplers, or a large wheeled MIMI tote, or the Creating Keepsakes Artistic Effects box set.  At least by now you should know if you are on the naughty or nice list and if you will be enjoying one of those treasured “wants” of the scrapbooking world.  Right?

Then there are the lists you are being bombarded with by children, spouses, and maybe a “listless” father who will come to you a couple of days before Christmas and ask if you have any ideas of what he can get your mother.  So, you grit your teeth, ask a few questions and then remember all the times he pitched in on short notice to drive one of the kids somewhere when you were busy juggling 4 other things at once, or when he babysat your dog while you had to take one of the children to play in a soccer tournament.  Instantly, you will remember that mental list you have prepared for this precise emergency, and you will again manage to save the day.

You might want to consider a couple of other lists.  You should probably do this now, before Dad calls.  One of these lists should contain all the fun, new things you learned while scrapbooking this year.  Maybe you took some of Sheri’s classes, or picked something out of a magazine to try, or were lucky enough to have a scrapping buddy show you some neat new trick.  Check this list out twice.  Have you been using these new techniques?  While you’re at it, check out the list of new gadgets you bought this year.  Don’t worry – I’m a scrapper, too, and I know a few things about this particular list myself.

Don’t forget about the lovely lists for 2006—aka your “New Year’s Resolutions”.  Have you thought about how to get that man in your life involved in this fabulous experience of scrapbooking?  Now, before you consider it a lost cause, let me explain that I am one of the few male scrapbookers you’ll find around these parts.  I got into scrapbooking not long after my wife started, almost 2 years ago.  You see, it occurred to me that we had both shared in the making of the memories that she was so happily turning into albums.   It also occurred to me that this was the realization of a very important item on both our lists – how to spend more quality time together.  So, we share all the fun of this wonderful craft and hobby, including the shopping.

Maybe scrapbooking is not high on every couple’s list of things to do together, but it will be on some.  Maybe you can start a list of what you want to accomplish as even an occasional scrapbooking couple.  Perhaps you can start listing the things you know the man in your life might be surprised to learn about scrapbooking, such as the fact that we sometimes work with wood, metal, leather, and tools (oh, by the way, have you checked out that new Fiskars craft drill yet?  Talk about a way to get that guy involved!).  Keep a list of things that might persuade him to try working on a page, or maybe come out to a couple’s class.  You never know, there might be such a thing on the list of new things to do at The Scrapping Bug early in the New year.

Happy Holidays to you all.  We hope to see you and your lists very soon.

John
